About the Plan
A fixed amount of money is paid for each day you have to stay in hospital for more than 3 days following an accident. The amount varies depending upon the type of plan you hold. For example, our standard plan pays £350 per day for each day (for up to 365 days) that you are in hospital in the UK as a result of an accident. It pays £1,250 per day for each day (for up to 30 days) that you are in hospital as a result of an accident in one of many foreign countries, including all EU countries, the USA, Canada and most popular holiday destinations. Your partner and children can be covered too. Premiums are fixed and don't increase with age - and you can keep your policy for as long as you like. Plus you don't need to undergo a medical.
Facts you need to bear in mind
There are some situations that you are not covered for and some limitations on what will be paid out. This is a summary of the main exclusions and limitations of the policy.
You must be aged between 18 and 69 to take out the policy and reside in the UK for at least 7 months of the year.
Claims will not be paid if the accident:
- does not result in hospitalisation for 24 hours
- is due to a pre-existing medical condition that you knew about when you took out the policy
- is as a direct result of consumption of excessive alcohol or use of illegal drugs
- occurs while on duty as a member of the Armed Forces
- occurs while pilots and cabin crew are flying as part of their job
- occurs while participating in certain dangerous pastimes such as rock climbing, parachuting or motor racing
Limitations to what might be paid out:
- the benefit for hospital stays in the UK is paid for a maximum of 365 days
- the additional benefit for hospital stays outside the UK is paid for a maximum of 30 days
- hospitalisation must take place within 90 days of the accident in the UK and within 30 days outside of the UK
- where recurrent hospital stays are necessary for the same injury they must take place within 90 days of the last day of your original stay
- not all countries are covered for the overseas hospitalisation benefit. We do not cover most countries that might be considered dangerous, such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Israel and others such as India, China and Russia
